I am always sorry when I see things crumbling, rusting, fading away – so a visit to the Cavan and Leitrim Railway is a bit of a two-edged sword for me. On the one hand … here is a place where enthusiasts collect and (try to) preserve old technology, right up my street, with railways, airplanes, ambulances, fire engines and even a mini submarine. On the other hand … it has to be said that there is too much in open air storage to be properly preserved, some “exhibits” visibly suffering. Without a massive cash injection, without many paying visitors, without unpaid hours of work and private funds it simply cannot survive long term. So go, support the lads by paying an entrance fee.
